During the war period of Thirunavayi, the Zamorin became advocate of Guruvayurappan and his subject’s visited the temple in large numbers. The income derived from their offerings enabled the temple authorities to construct the eastern and western gopurams and encase the flagstaffs in gold. The central shrine was rebuilt in 1638 by the end of the 17th century. Guruvayoor had became the most famous pilgrims centre in Kerala. |
